Art therapy (also know as art psychotherapy) is a form of psychotherapy where art-making is used to help you express feelings and thoughts which might be hard to put into words. Your art therapist is there to support you and help you reflect on your artwork and what it might mean to you.
You don't have to be 'good' at art. The art in art therapy can vary from a squiggle or a collection of leaves to sculpture or painting you have spent weeks making. Sometimes simply playing with art materials can be therapeutic. You can decide what you make or do in each session.
Art therapists are allied health professionals, regulated by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and registered with the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT).

I am a psychodynamic and person-centred Art Therapist. This means that together we will explore your internal experience (your thoughts and feelings) but also your environment, circumstances and past experiences. Art therapy will centre around your needs and preferences. My aim is to create a safe space for you to reflect and explore your strengths, challenges and any areas which are causing you difficulty. I have a warm, friendly and creative approach.
I qualified in 2021, with an MA Art Psychotherapy from the University of South Wales. I now also teach on this course part-time.
I work with children, young people and adults. I have a personal interest in supporting neurodivergent people and am AuDHD (Autistic and ADHD) myself. I have a neuro-affirming approach which means I understand that everyone's brains work differently, and I will explore the strengths as well as the challenges that come from being neurodivergent. I have experience of working with mental health, including anxiety and depression, trauma, addiction and bereavement. I have also worked with older adults with dementia.
I offer art therapy from my home studio or outdoors on the Northern Slopes, BS3. I use natural materials as well as traditional art materials. I also work online with adults.
I am part of the Nature & Nurture Collective (https://www.nature-and-nurture.org/) and run art therapy and art & wellbeing groups which are advertised on their website and below on my blog.
In addition to my private practice I am involved in a participatory research project with the University of Bristol exploring what makes spaces safe for supporting mental health (https://www.redcatchcommunitygarden.com/safespacesproject) and have recently written an article 'Safety in a person-centred, garden-based art therapy group for dementia' to be published in the International Journal of Art Therapy in 2025.
I am a voluntary co-ordinator (with Becca Quirk) of the British Association of Art Therapists Special Interest Group 'Nature-based practice and climate change'.
My recent CPD includes courses in Working with the Intersections of Privilege & Otherness, Suicide First Aid, Understanding Autism, Supervision, Working with People in Nature, Grief and Loss, Sandtray Therapy, and lots more (full list below).
I have a current DBS, first aid training, Level 3 Safeguarding training and am fully insured. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (AS017413) and am a full member of the British Association of Art Therapists (46189).
Before I became an Art Therapist I ran a business called Happymess which offered art and messy play classes. I have an MA Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, from 2001.
